Finding the light: Moving forward with hope and purpose

In these moments of uncertainty and rapid change, it is time for us to collectively move forward and focus on the impact we have as educators and health professionals.

At ASU’s Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation, we’re not just reacting to the current moment - we’re building for the future. One of the most exciting examples of that is the recent launch of our Learn Where You Live Initiative and ribbon-cutting for our mobile simulation unit.

This is more than just a vehicle, it’s a promise. A promise to bring high-quality, hands-on nursing education to learners where they are. Whether that’s in rural Arizona, tribal communities, or underserved urban neighborhoods, we’re breaking down barriers to access and ensuring that aspiring nurses don’t have to choose between their circumstances or location and their calling.

This is such an exciting opportunity–I can’t wait to share our experiences with you as we gear up and begin to graduate the learners!

This initiative speaks to something I deeply believe: innovation isn’t just about technology. It’s about meeting people where they are and lifting them up. It’s about expanding opportunity, expanding hope. From community-based health programs and partnerships to trailblazing research on resilience and recovery, our faculty and students continue to inspire with their commitment to solving real-world problems in real time.

So yes, a lot is going on in the world that feels uncertain. But I’m choosing to lean into what’s possible. I see a generation of students rising to meet the moment with grit and grace. I see faculty and staff showing up every day with heart, creativity and purpose. I see community partners saying, “How can we work together?” And I see the road ahead, not without its challenges, but full of promise.

Let’s keep moving forward together, with compassion, with courage and with a deep belief that what we do matters. Because it does.
