Students directly admitted to nursing who meet Continuing Eligibility Criteria while attending ASU are guaranteed a space in the upper-division clinical nursing program within one year of eligibility.
Direct Admission Requirements

Priority Application Date: November 1
First-year admission applications to the Bachelor of Science in nursing program that are received after the November 1 application priority date are considered on a space-available basis. Students not offered admission directly to the nursing program are placed in the BS program in community health.
First-year applicants should select an additional major when applying for admission.
English language proficiency requirements for applicants whose native language is not English:
Nursing applicants who do not meet the above requirements will be admitted to our community health major. Community health students complete coursework that mirrors the nursing prerequisites, and may apply through the competitive application process for vacant seats in the nursing program that have not been filled by direct admission students. There is no guarantee vacant seats will be available.
Continuing Eligibility Criteria
Continuing Eligibility Criteria (CEC) are reviewed annually and subject to change.
Steps to Apply for Direct Admission for First-Year Students
After Direct Admission students are placed into the upper-division clinical nursing program, any remaining spaces will be available to competitive applicants. Selection is based on Select GPA and score on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). Spaces are limited and placement is not guaranteed. There is no guarantee spaces will be available through the Competitive Application Process.
First bachelor’s degree-seeking students - including current ASU students and transfer students - are eligible to apply through the competitive process. Interested students who already have a bachelor's degree in another discipline should consider applying to the Accelerated BSN or the MS Nursing (Entry to Nursing Practice) program.
